Architecture Design 4
The theme of this studio is engaging environment and community. It introduced us to explore types of design by harnessing environmental qualities and conditions for human and environment sustainability through a project with a specific community of users within a given context.
01
Disabilities Experience Pavilion
In group of 2, we were to understand material poetics in relation to user experience. Showcase architectural design informed by material use, environmental sustainability awareness in relation to user needs and the activities involved.
Our target user was physical disability community, specifically lower limb disabled. Our pavilion would introduce unstable platforms and interactive rope handle to enhance the fun experience for both able and disabled user. As the disabled shouldn't be treated as abnormal individuals, the design of activity spaces are majority using most simple and direct construction and dimensions.

Site Analysis & Design Responses
In a group of 14, we were required to conduct research on the site to gain a basic understanding of Kepong Botanic Garden. Next, conduct a site analysis to interpret themes from the collected data to inform our design narratives which address the environmental qualities and contextual needs of the site. Based on the analysis, we were tasked to will derive a theme as the design response which would frame our presentation. Each group is to identify the PLUS component, also known as the key program, which our wellness center design will be based on.

Wellness Center PLUS
After conducting site analysis in Project 2, this project tasked us to design a Wellness Center PLUS within an internal space of 900sqm in the Kepong Botanical Gardens, bordering the suburban neighbourhood of Taman Ehsan. It is to serve as communal health and recreational facility and we were required to understand the specific needs of the ‘users’ of the design project so as to foster a sense of community in our design using various complex spatial organization typologies and a variety of passive strategies for sustainable design. The design should contribute to and merge harmoniously with the environment and site and provide the best of spatial experiences in fostering a sense of community.
